The Town of Vinton Animal Control Unit provides services for domestic animals. These services include the enforcement of criminal and town offenses as they relate to animals, along with providing and setting traps for domestic animal nuisances.

There are a few basic things to note concerning animals in the Town of Vinton, which are listed below:

Town law limits the number of animals to two per household, regardless of ownership.

All animals must be properly licensed with the town and hold a current Rabies certificate. Animal tags can be purchased from the Vinton Treasurer's Office during regular business hours. A current Rabies certificate must be presented in order to license your animal in the town. All animal tags expire on December 31st of each year and new tags are available as early as December 1st. Fees are $5.00 per animal for those that are spayed or neutered. There is a $10.00 fee for those animals that are not spayed or neutered. Three year licenses are available, to which the cost is $13.50 for animals that are spayed or neutered and $27.00 for animals who are not spayed or neutered.

Households are currently allowed four animals, in which two must be spayed or neutered.

Prohibited animals within the town include livestock, fowl, and rabbits. (Chickens are allowed by special ordinance and permit)

Remember to keep your pets on a leash when outside your property and be courteous to others by cleaning up after them.

Dead animals on the roadway are handled by our Public Works Department, please call them at 983-0646 to have a dead animal picked up from the roadway.
